Terri Schiavo is being denied food & water & is slowly starving to death. That is okay with the courts. In fact it is ordered by the courts. However, justice looks harshly at & moves swiftly against those who would try to starve a cow to death.
In this
first case, a Vermont farmer was charged with animal cruelty for not feeding or watering his cows. At least 11 cows died. Due to a warrantless search, he received only a 1 year suspended sentence, 30 days on a work crew & not allowed to own cows for a year. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) had demanded that the farmer be given jail time & psychiatric evaluation.
In the
second case, a Florida man faces 120 felony counts for the starvation death of 23 of his cows. He was held on $100,000 bail & faces a maximum of 600 years in prison. The Domestic Animals Services Director called it a "horrific case."
There are no courts, nor People for the Ethical Treatment of Humans looking out for Terri - after all, she's only a human being. If she was a Bald Eagle or a River Pine tree she'd be afforded better protection.
It serves her right for not being born a cow.
